- Why use it?
When you get a silver or gold coin with correct weight and size, how can you know it is not a fake coin made of other cheap materials? Traditional ping tests can distinguish true gold or silver coins from counterfeit ones in cheap metal. But you need good ears!

Precious coin tester helps you listen to the sound generated by the ping test and will tell you whether the coin is a cheap metal fake*. So no more worry about the fake gold or silver coin!

- How to ping the coin?
Hold the coin on the tip of one finger near the mic of your phone/tablet, and knock the coin briefly with another hard object. Hold still the coin while it rings. When the sound of coin has diminished, knock it again.

- Which results are good?
Both 2 and 3 stars are good results:

absolute 100% garbage. I was asked by the developers to elaborate upon why I believe that this app is garbage. I have to say that the main reason is that most of the precious metals are not even available for an analysis on this app. There are many other free apps available that can do this for very wide applications. Honestly speaking, those options that are available for free are limited or require extra payment. there are better and free options online

I have concerns about the accuracy. I tested several ASE from a semi trusted buyer and they all passed. This was in line with my expectations given that the ASEs passed other tests and the buyer was reputable, but just to see how it would react, I tested an allen key that came with a piece of furniture I put together and it too passed the test. I somehow doubt that the company was sending out silver allen keys, and even if it was how did it pass as an ASE?

Sooo disappointed. Used to be a great free app but now it's subscription based. I wouldn't mind paying a reasonable one time fee but having to pay a monthly(!) subscription fee? That would only make sense if I am a coin dealer or have to check a lot of coins every month. For the occasional test of a coin at the flea market the subscription price is to high. Suggestion: make a "pro" version that is subscription based and offer a "free" version that allows one to test a few coins a month.
