Update: I have reduced my rating down to one star. I constantly have to reload the app, and some days it won't connect at all. The hardware works great but this app is junk. Wish I would have bought a different brand of controller. The controller itself is great. But this app... Not so much. It seems to disconnect from the unit any time I switch to a different app or lock my phone so I don't get any kind of notifications from it unless I have it open on my screen. Kind of defeats the purpose.

The device itself does a good job keeping a stable temperature in my smoker, but the internet connectivity of the device and the functionality of the app in connecting to the device are extremely unreliable. Today it dropped the connection after a couple hours and simply will not reconnect to the cloud. Local connect mode is a little more reliable after the 4.06 update but still not great. On startup the app sometimes says there are no controllers registered (desipite a controller appearing on the screen behind the popup). The menu layout is not intuitive and given the frequency of connection drops it is annoying that you can't switch modes from the cook screen, you have to bail out and change the mode under "profile". The cook time listed on the web site doesn't match the app (app uses local time while the site appears use eastern time always? My phone knows where I am, can't the app tell the server?) Today in local connect mode, the app would lose connectivity but still show "connected" in the cook page while showing stale data. Htiting "back" would send the app into a "unable to connect" popup where the only options were "switch mode" and "retry" (no cancel, stop, etc).

Great when it works. May disconnect in the middle of a smoke and leave you to figure it out. Finniky af to set up. *EDIT* 2->4 stars. When I wrote the original review I had a successful smoke rate of 1/3 but now it's like 7/9. I still think the app could use work, but it's stayed connected since then and works like a charm.
