“The Handbook of Necessary Knowledge” begins with the sections “Numbers and Figures,” “Measurement,” and “Matter and Energy.” These sections are most useful for schoolchildren, because, in essence, they represent a “cheat sheet” - a short summary of mathematics and physics in the form of formulas and drawings.
The “Universe” section opens with maps of the starry sky of the northern and southern hemispheres, and is then built in a descending manner - from information about the Universe in general, Galaxies, stars to planets and their satellites, meteors and minor planets. There is a description of celestial coordinates.
The most familiar planet to us is our Earth, so “Earth” is the next section. It contains information about parts of the world and oceans, seas and rivers, islands, peninsulas, etc. There are tables on the history of geographical discoveries and trips around the world.
The “Nature” section describes life on our Earth. In addition to the age-old questions “What is life?” and “How does living things differ from non-living things?” provides a description of evolutionary processes and mechanisms, classification of living organisms, information about ecosystems and populations. Tables of information about the animals of the Red Book, the origin of domestic animals, poisonous and medicinal plants, and even records of plants and birds are provided.
In the “Man” section, in addition to information about the origin of man in general and the stages of development of the individual, a description is given of the main functional physiological systems of the human body - bone, digestive, circulatory, respiration, endocrine and nervous systems, and sensory organs.
In the “Society” section, the table “Main Religions of the World” is interesting. The origins and essence of Buddhism, Islam, Christianity, Judaism and Confucianism are briefly and meaningfully outlined. From the table “History of Russia against the backdrop of World History” it is clear how uneven the history of our country is. The section of the table “Russian rulers” closes.
The “Science and Technology” section presents the largest scientific discoveries and the history of technology from antiquity to the present day.
The “Culture” section begins with ancient mythology. Culture is based on language and writing, so several tables are devoted specifically to this part of culture. Next, several tables provide the classification and history of art, architecture, and musical instruments.
