Motion Ghost is a real-time visual motion-detection and image-processing tool that reveals subtle movement and change over time. Simply, it compares the live scene to a delayed, inverted, copy of the scene.
It can be used for a wide variety of educational, experimental, artistic, and observational purposes, including:
- Detecting motion from insects (mosquitoes, bugs) and small animals (mice, birds, wildlife)
- Observing plant movement and overnight growth
- Visualizing vibrations in engines, machines, or structures
- find people or animal tracks
- Watching slow changes, such as cake rising in an oven
- Creating unique artistic and abstract motion images
- Exploring motion patterns that are difficult to see with the naked eye
It is best to use a tripod or place device on a steady surface.
Ways to use the app:
- live (highlights differences between live & delayed)
- pause live (can see changes since live was frozen)
- pause delayed (similar to pause live)
- pause all (live & delayed: frozen difference)
- capture image button (can use volume up or down, also)
- delay time (difference between live and delayed: high/low values highlight slow/fast changes, respectively)
- zoom (change this like a normal camera)
- two sliders to adjust setting for each mode
The app processes images entirely on-device, with no data collection or network usage.
Multiple visual modes and effects allow users to highlight motion, edges, contrast, and temporal changes in creative ways.
Motion Ghost is a tool, not a diagnostic or safety device.
Users are responsible for appropriate and lawful use of the app.
Whether you are experimenting, learning, observing nature, or simply having fun, Motion Ghost lets you see motion in a new way.
