About this app

CropID makes product information readily available while you shop – quickly, clearly, and with privacy in mind.

Scan a product with your camera, enter the GTIN, or search for it. CropID combines barcode recognition, local text recognition, and local image analysis to find matching products – even if the barcode isn't currently visible.

🔒 Privacy-friendly scanning
During a standard scan, the camera images remain on your device. Barcode recognition, OCR, and packaging analysis run locally in the app. Only the necessary recognized information is transmitted for the product search – not the scanned image itself. An image or image section is only transmitted if you explicitly include it in a correction or report function.

⚠️ Quickly identify allergens
Select the allergens that are relevant to you. CropID clearly highlights any existing allergen information.

Important: Product data may be incomplete, outdated, or incorrect. For allergies, intolerances, or health-related decisions, always refer to the current labeling on the packaging.

🌱 Certifications and Seals
CropID recognizes and explains supported labels such as EU Organic, Demeter, Bioland, BioKreis, Naturland, Fairtrade, Rainforest Alliance, MSC, ASC, FSC, QS, Initiative Tierwohl, as well as vegan and vegetarian seals.


⚔️ Compare Products Directly
In VS mode, you can compare two products side-by-side. Related product variants can be displayed as a product group. Comparisons include nutritional values, scores, ingredients, allergens, certifications, environmental information, and prices.

⭐ Better Alternatives
CropID can show suitable alternatives that are, for example, healthier, more environmentally friendly, have a better CropID overall score, or are more animal-friendly.

💶 Prices and Retail Locations
If data is available, CropID displays known prices and retail locations. You can also search for a nearby retailer. Past information does not guarantee current availability.

📦 Packaging and QR Codes
Existing packaging images can be displayed. If CropID detects a QR code, its contents can be accessed directly from the product page.

Missing or incorrect product information and images can be added or corrected directly from within CropID, provided the data source supports it.

🕘 History and favorites
You can find previously viewed products, product groups, and comparisons in your history. Products can be saved as favorites.

📴 Even with connection problems
If the CropID server is temporarily unavailable, the app will inform you. Any existing local functions will remain usable; pending processing can be resumed later.

🌍 Open product data
CropID primarily uses Open Food Facts, Open Pet Food Facts, and Open Beauty Facts, supplementing them with its own search, comparison, and analysis functions. Open data may be incomplete, outdated, or inaccurate.
