About this app

NOT A GOVERNMENT APP — PLEASE READ

Crossover BC is an independent app and does not represent a government entity. It is not made by, endorsed by, affiliated with, or supported by the BC Wildfire Service, the Province of British Columbia, or any other government body.

Everything this app shows is public data published by the Government of British Columbia. The app reads that data and presents it — it does not produce, verify or correct it. Official sources are listed at the bottom of this description and are linked inside the app under "About". For anything operational, and for evacuation orders and alerts, always use the official BC Wildfire Service sources directly.

WHAT YOU GET

• Every active BC wildfire, ranked and filterable by fire center, stage of control, size, or crossover status
• Real mapped fire perimeters, colored by stage of control — Out of Control, Being Held, Under Control — not just a pin on a map
• Fire center boundaries drawn on the map, so you can see which center a fire sits in
• Fire weather from the nearest BC Wildfire Service station: temperature, humidity, wind, and the crossover gap
• The Fire Weather Index suite — FFMC, DC, ISI, BUI and FWI — with each index ranked against every reporting station in the province, so you can see what today's number actually means

ABOUT ESTIMATED VALUES

Temperature, humidity, crossover and the fire behaviour indices are measured at weather stations, not at the fire. The nearest station is typically 15–30 km away, and elevation, slope and aspect can move temperature and humidity substantially over that distance. Treat every conditions value as an estimate for the area, never as a reading at the fireline.

PRIVACY

No accounts, no ads, no analytics, no tracking. The app never requests your location — fire coordinates come from the public feed, not from your phone. Data is cached on your device only.
