Crownfall is a premium chess-inspired strategy board game built around one decisive objective: capture the opposing Crown.
Crownfall keeps the familiar spirit of classic chess while introducing original rules, a larger 9x9 board, and new tactical pieces. There is no check and no checkmate. Every Crown is always exposed, and victory comes from direct capture.
Designed for players who enjoy thoughtful board games, Crownfall rewards planning, positioning, and risk management. Learn familiar movement patterns, master new rules, and use each piece to control the field.
Core rules:
• Capture the opponent's Crown to win
• Play on a 9x9 board instead of a traditional 8x8 board
• No check, no checkmate, and no castling
• The Crown can use Surge once per game to move 2 squares
• The Veil gains temporary capture immunity after moving
• Intercept replaces the classic en passant-style response
• Vassals can promote after reaching the far rank
• The Reaver is a powerful promotion-only piece
Pieces include:
• Crown — the commander; its capture ends the match
• Warden — slides horizontally or vertically
• Lancer — slides diagonally
• Shade — jumps in an L-shape
• Veil — an original protected scout
• Vassal — advances forward and promotes
• Reaver — a supreme attacker earned through promotion
