Six camera feeds. One building. One night. Every hour the building is slightly not the building it was.
Wrong Shift is a security camera game about noticing. The feeds refresh on the hour and something is different in zero or one of them. Tap the thing and name it, or press All clear. About eight sweeps, tightening, and the whole night runs two to three minutes.
REPORTING NOTHING IS ALSO AN ANSWER
Most hours nothing changes. Logging something that did not change costs you more than missing something that did, so the safe move is often to press All clear and mean it.
YOU FIND OUT AT DAWN, NOT BEFORE
The game never tells you whether you were right while you are still working. At dawn the log book fills in line by line: what you logged, what was actually there, what you missed, what you invented. Then the pay.
AN ANOMALY IS A WRONG ORDINARY THING
An object that is not the object that was there. A thing that moved. A thing that arrived. A thing that left. Nothing jumps out at you and nothing chases you. The fear is that the building is not the building any more, and it is carried entirely by the swap.
THE GUARD BEFORE YOU LEFT A NOTE
One paragraph, professional, and each night slightly less well.
"Nothing to report. The tea is in the tin marked coffee. I did not do that."
"Quiet one. Please do not rearrange the monitors. I know they are not in order."
WHAT IS IN IT
- Three buildings: Northgate, the Helix Annexe, Meridian House
- Six rooms each, on six feeds, on a monitor wall that is actually running
- Anomalies drawn from the furniture, signage, lab kit and security fittings that belong in each place
- A log book that writes itself, and pays against itself
- Three hidden things. Two of them are hard
- English and Korean, both written rather than translated
NOTHING IS SHOWN
No blood, no body, no gore, no occult imagery. Three art sheets that would have supplied them are excluded by name, in code, and a test fails if one comes back. This is a watching game with the lights off, not a horror game with a monster in it.
NO NONSENSE
No energy bar. No timers between nights. No waiting to play. Clock on, work the night, clock off. It saves where you left off.
