Lantern Voice reads your own books to you.
Add a book as EPUB, PDF, text, Markdown or Word, download a voice for its language, and press play. The sentence being read is highlighted, you can tap any sentence to start there, and the player keeps your place across chapters. Change the speed, skip, set a sleep timer and control playback from the lock screen.
Keeps reading in the background
Like any audiobook player, Lantern Voice keeps reading when you lock the screen or switch to another app, so you can listen while you walk, drive or cook. While a book is playing, Android shows a Lantern Voice notification with the book, the chapter and play/pause, back and forward buttons. Pause from the notification, the lock screen, your headphones or the app and the background playback stops; the notification can then be swiped away.
Voices on your phone
Download a language pack once and your phone makes the voice itself: English, Tiếng Việt, Español, Français, Italiano, Português, हिन्दी, 日本語 and 中文, with several voices for most of them. Listen to a sample of every voice before you download. Chapters already made play again without a connection.
Versions of the book
Besides the full text, ask for a version made for you: an abridged edition, a short summary of each chapter, a dramatised retelling, a gentle version for children, plain English for learners, or a translation. Versions are AI-made retellings for your own listening and may contain mistakes; the original is always one tap away.
Ask about the story
Ask who a character is or what happened so far. Answers use only the part you have already heard, so nothing is spoiled.
Lantern credits
Listening is free. The AI features (versions, questions and cleaning up a PDF) use Lantern credits; every new account starts with 10, and credit packs are available in the app.
Your books stay yours
Books, versions and listening progress are kept under your own account and are never shared with other users. Plain listening never sends text to an AI provider; the app asks before the first version, question or clean-up, and explains exactly what is sent. You can delete your account and everything in it from Settings.
Formats: EPUB, PDF, TXT, Markdown and DOCX. Books with DRM cannot be opened.
