About this app

Low Brightness for Android

Low Brightness is a lightweight Android app that lets you dim your screen below the system minimum, perfect for using your phone in the dark without straining your eyes. Whether you're in a pitch-black room or outside at night, this app helps you reduce brightness to the level that feels just right.

Customize everything with ease: choose the dimming color, adjust the opacity, measure ambient light with the built-in lux meter, or schedule automatic activation. No root required. No internet needed. Just a clean, fast, Material You inspired interface.

Our app is designed to be simple and easy to use, while also being fast and lightweight.

Features

💡 Screen Dimming & Control

• Extra Dimming: Lower your screen brightness below Android's system minimum to eliminate eye strain in dark rooms.
• Filter Customization: Personalize your screen filter with adjustable intensity and custom overlay colors.
• Quick Settings Tile: Toggle the dimming overlay instantly with a convenient Quick Settings shortcut.
• Automatic Schedules: Set custom schedules to activate and deactivate screen dimming automatically.

📊 Ambient Insights & Design

• Built-In Lux Meter: Measure ambient light levels accurately using your device's light sensor.
• Material You Design: Experience a clean, modern interface featuring dynamic Material You theming.
• Resource Efficient: Designed to be lightweight and battery friendly with minimal permissions.
• Seamless Overlay: Uses an AccessibilityService to keep the dimming overlay reliably visible across all apps.

Benefits

🌙 Eye Comfort & Protection

• Eliminate Eye Strain: Protect your eyes from harsh glare in pitch-black rooms, late-night reading, or outdoor night use.
• Extend Battery Life: Save battery power on OLED screens by reducing active display luminance.
• One-Tap Convenience: Control your screen brightness instantly without navigating deep settings menus.
• Universal Compatibility: Works seamlessly with any app, game, or web browser at any time.

How it works
Use the lux meter to check the ambient light level around you. Then add the Night Screen tile to Quick Settings, grant the needed permissions, and tap it whenever you want to dim the display. Adjust the slider for brightness or pick your favorite overlay color. You can also set a schedule to activate dimming automatically.

Accessibility disclosure
Low Brightness uses the AccessibilityService API only to keep the dimming overlay visible over other apps while you reduce the brightness. The service does not log or share any personal data and you may disable it at any time in system settings.

There's a lot of ads. Despite there being a quick setting, I wasn't able to get it to toggle like the app says it should. Tapping it opens the app and brings it to foreground, frequently showing an ad that has to be manually closed before you can adjust anything. The only reason I'm not rating lower is the author publishes with GPLv3. I haven't reviewed what they share on GitHub thoroughly other than that the APKs from there still require Play Store and have ads, but it's nice for transparency.

This is the best lower brightness app I have found. It works great, and even allows you to disable ads if you find them to be too annoying.

Hi! Thank you for your kind words! I totally get you, ads can bring down the experience a bit but sadly they are needed to support the work on all apps I've spent nights on. I'll do my best to improve the experience in future updates as much as I can! Until then if they are really that annoying you can disable them in settings -> privacy -> ads
