There's a lot of ads. Despite there being a quick setting, I wasn't able to get it to toggle like the app says it should. Tapping it opens the app and brings it to foreground, frequently showing an ad that has to be manually closed before you can adjust anything. The only reason I'm not rating lower is the author publishes with GPLv3. I haven't reviewed what they share on GitHub thoroughly other than that the APKs from there still require Play Store and have ads, but it's nice for transparency.

This is the best lower brightness app I have found. It works great, and even allows you to disable ads if you find them to be too annoying.

Hi! Thank you for your kind words! I totally get you, ads can bring down the experience a bit but sadly they are needed to support the work on all apps I've spent nights on. I'll do my best to improve the experience in future updates as much as I can! Until then if they are really that annoying you can disable them in settings -> privacy -> ads
