About this app

Steady is a clean, precise metronome and chromatic tuner built for real practice. No clutter, no ads in the core app, and rock-solid timing that never drifts.

Whether you play piano, guitar, strings, or anything else, Steady keeps you in time and in tune.

METRONOME
• Tempo 20 to 400 BPM. Drag the big number for fine control, or use the numbered tempo ruler.
• Tap tempo: tap along and Steady sets the BPM.
• Time signatures from 1 to 16 beats, with 2/4/8/16 beat units.
• Tap any beat to accent, soften, or mute it.
• Subdivisions: eighths, triplets, sixteenths, dotted, and swing.
• Polyrhythms: layer 2 to 9 cross-pulses over the main beat.
• Low-latency, drift-free timing pinned to a precise audio clock.

TUNER
• Chromatic microphone tuner with a clear needle dial and live frequency.
• Instrument profiles (guitar, bass, ukulele, violin, cello, voice and more) for faster, steadier readings.
• A scrolling pitch graph so you can see how steady you hold a note.
• Adjustable A4 reference and a drone tone to tune against.
• Advanced tuning with Pro: historical temperaments and transposing instruments.

PRACTICE TOOLS
• Tempo trainer: ramp the BPM up to a target every few bars, or ramp it back down to practise a passage progressively slower.
• Gap trainer: play some bars, go silent, and test your inner clock.
• Random trainer: drop beats at random and hold the pulse on your own.
• Count-in bars and a big on-screen beat number.
• Practice tracker: a calendar heatmap, history charts, streaks and daily goals.
• Preset Sequencer: chart a piece section by section — tempo, meter and accent changes bar by bar — then play the whole thing hands-free.
• Record practice clips, play them back, and share them.

SOUND AND FEEL
• Built-in click packs, all synthesised: a realistic mechanical Tick, plus Wood, Click and Beep. Pro adds Cowbell, Clave, Rimshot, Mechanical and Bell.
• Design your own click in the custom sound studio.
• Vibration on the beat for silent practice.
• Visual modes: flash on beat, a swinging pendulum, or the camera flash.
• Pick your accent colour or a gradient theme.
• Keeps clicking in the background with controls in the notification, plus a home-screen widget and quick-settings tile.

The full metronome and tuner are free forever with no ads. Steady Pro is an optional one-time purchase (no subscription) that unlocks the advanced trainer, practice streaks and analytics, the Preset Sequencer, advanced tuning, premium click packs and the custom sound studio.

PRIVATE BY DESIGN
No ads, no analytics, no tracking. The microphone is used on your device only and is never recorded or sent anywhere. Everything you do stays on your device.

What’s new

• New app icon: Steady's own beat row, with the downbeat lit — the same mark you see on the metronome screen.
• Fixed cramped layouts on tablets and in landscape: the saved-presets list and the Sequencer's tempo panel no longer run off the bottom of a short screen.
• Smaller and faster: the app's code is now shrunk and optimised, cutting the compiled code by about 85%.

Timing is unchanged — the audio clock was not touched.
