About this app

Memorizing English vocabulary can get boring quickly, right? Dansuk is an app designed to help you memorize essential English words and idioms from middle school through high school. Every time you memorize a word, a piece is attached to a keyring. A keyring is completed when you memorize 100 words, but you won't know what picture will appear until you've attached all the pieces. You'll encounter the words you've memorized again in stories like Sherlock Holmes and The Wizard of Oz.

What words are included?

The foundation consists of 3,000 basic vocabulary words from the Ministry of Education (covering both the 2015 and 2022 revised curricula). In addition, we've added 306 basic words like days of the week and months—words that appeared more than twice in recent CSATs and mock exams but are not in the basic vocabulary—and included 510 idioms.

How to study:

We don't start with questions for unfamiliar words. You look at five flashcards first and then immediately solve the questions using those five words.

When a question appears, the answer choices show up one second later. Try to recall the meaning in that time. It stays much longer than choosing from the options.

If you correctly answer "Select meaning from English" and "Select English from meaning" three times in a row, it counts as having memorized the word. However, you must select within 4 seconds. This is because in an exam setting, the meaning needs to come to mind as soon as you see the word.

If you get it wrong, the correct answer and example sentence are displayed immediately, and you are asked again. For words you already know, you can simply press "I already know" to skip them.

If you press "Examine Options · Dictionary" on an incorrect question, it shows the meaning of each word in the options, and pressing the English option plays the pronunciation.

Idioms appear as blanks within example sentences, and the sentence is filled in if you answer correctly.

**Meet Again When You're About to Forget**

You are asked about memorized words once each after 2, 7, and 21 days. If you get all three answers right, the word becomes firmly memorized. Even if you get it wrong, the keyring piece does not fall off.

Incorrect words and frequently missed words appear at the beginning of today's study section, so you do not need to look them up separately. The home screen widget displays cards for recalling incorrect words. The meaning is hidden until three dots disappear, at which point it is revealed; tapping it opens the corresponding word screen immediately.

If you set the days you will study each week, you will receive a notification at the designated time.

On busy days, selecting "Just 1 Minute" (five vocabulary questions) from the "Today" tab counts as a study day. If you only want to review the words you have memorized, simply select "Review."

Collecting Keyrings

Turn the handle on the capsule machine to print out keyring designs. The finished keyrings hang on the cards in the "My Keyrings" tab. There are 15 types of cards available, such as earphone cases, backpacks, and cork boards, and the keyrings hang in actual spots like bag D-rings or zipper pulls. Turning the card changes the background to a scene matching the design, and the next card opens once the current one is full. There are also seasonal cards, such as maple branches in autumn or trees in winter. Keyrings cannot be purchased with money; they can only be obtained through studying.

**The Home Screen Widget** Reconnecting Through Stories

Memorizing words alone doesn't really convey where they are used. That is why we have rewritten 19 stories—such as Sherlock Holmes, The Wizard of Oz, The Time Machine, A Christmas Carol, and The Adventures of Tom Sawyer—in middle and high school English. Out of the 3,306 words in the app, 3,202 appear somewhere within these stories.

For each book, it shows you what percentage of the text can be read using the words you have memorized. The number increases as you memorize more words, and it reaches 100% when you have memorized all the words you are studying.

If you get stuck on a sentence, tap it to see the sentence explanation. You can view the meaning of the phrase, grammar, and the words and their meanings in that sentence all at once, and you can also listen to that sentence separately. You can also select and study only the words that appear in that chapter from the beginning of the chapter.

You can highlight the words you have memorized or turn on the translation to read. If you turn on "Segmented Reading," diagonal lines are drawn between meaningful chunks, and the translation is attached to each chunk, allowing you to read even long sentences in English order. In "The Red-Headed League," grammar tags such as present perfect and relative pronouns are attached after the meaning of a phrase, and tapping them explains it in simpler terms. As you finish reading a chapter, a box fills in, and the reading continues directly from where you left off using "Continue Reading."

It also helps with listening practice. An AI voice reads each sentence aloud, and you can adjust the speed from 0.8x to 1.5x or repeat a single sentence. It continues playing even if you switch to another tab.

Collecting Badges

You earn badges when records accumulate, such as study days, consecutive study sessions, study time, memorized words, and keyrings. There are a total of 62 badges, including hidden ones. When you receive a badge, the next word you memorize will sparkle in gold on the keyring.

A Study Method Backed by Learning Research

While you collect keyrings like a game, the study method was developed by referencing 15 pieces of learning research. These methods include recalling things on your own and reviewing them after a period of time. You can even view supporting research papers in the "Dansuki Study Method" section within the app.

It also adjusts the difficulty level. You check how many recent questions you answered correctly; if they are too easy, you mix in more confusing options and difficult words, and if they are too difficult, you take a breather. The criteria for determining whether you have memorized the material is the same at any stage.

In addition,

pronunciation is provided by an AI voice created on your phone without an internet connection. You can choose between American and British accents, as well as male and female voices.

There is no sign-up or advertisement. Your records are stored only on your phone and are also included in your mobile phone's Google backup.

The word list is based on the basic vocabulary announced by the Ministry of Education. It is an app created by an individual, independent of the Ministry of Education or the Korea Institute for Curriculum and Evaluation.
Memorize middle school, high school, and CSAT English vocabulary and idioms. Read Sherlock Holmes with the words you've memorized, and a piece of the keyring is added each time you memorize a word.
