About this app

Scan turns pages into PDFs on your phone. Point the camera at a document, let it
find the edges, and you have a file you can email. Nothing is uploaded, nothing
is watermarked, and nothing is behind a payment.

WHAT IT DOES

Scan one page or twenty. The scanner finds the edges of the paper, straightens
it out and drops the shadows, then hands the pages to the app. Add more later,
from the camera or from photos you already have.

Every page keeps its own crop, its own rotation and its own colour. Change any
of them whenever you like - a week later, on a document you already exported.
Nothing is baked in, so nothing can be spoiled: dragging a corner back gives you
exactly what you had.

THE THREE THINGS THE OTHERS CHARGE FOR

• No page limit. A document can be as long as the thing you are scanning.
• No watermark. Ever. Not on the free version, because there is no other version.
• No charge to export, and no advert in front of it either.

Also free: every colour mode, the full resolution, re-cropping, reordering,
sharing, saving a single page as an image, and the backup file.

REORDER, RECROP, REDO

Pages are a list. Move one up or down, delete one, re-crop one, turn one the
right way up. The PDF is worked out from the list each time you export, so
rearranging a document can never leave it half built - there is nothing half
built to leave.

COLOUR, GREY, OR BLACK AND WHITE

Colour for a passport or a photo. Greyscale for anything you are going to print.
Black and white for text, which is the one that matters: it is thresholded
locally, so a page lit by a desk lamp stays readable in the dark corner AND on
the bright side, and it makes the file a fraction of the size. A ten page
contract in black and white is small enough to email; the same pages as
photographs are not.

PAGE SIZES

Fit the scan, or A4, Letter or Legal if you are going to print. A landscape page
gets a landscape sheet rather than a thin band in the middle of a portrait one,
and nothing is ever cropped to fit - the edge of your contract stays on the page.

NO CAMERA PERMISSION, IN A DOCUMENT SCANNER

Three permissions, and all three are for the adverts that keep it free. There is
no camera permission, because the scanning screen is Google Play services' own
and opens the camera under its permission rather than one this app holds. There
is no photos permission either: bringing in a picture goes through Android's own
picker, which hands over exactly the images you tapped. And there is no storage
permission: saving a PDF goes through Android's own file picker, so you choose
the name and the folder.

You can check all of that. Install it, open Settings, look at the permission
list. It is empty.

IT IS ALL ON THIS PHONE

No account, no sign-up, no cloud, no sync, no server. Everything except the
adverts works in airplane mode. Your scans are not included in Android's own
backup either, so they do not quietly arrive on a server nobody mentioned.

Uninstalling deletes them, which is why Save a copy exists: one file with every
document, every page and every crop in it, saved where you choose. That is also
how you move to a new phone, and it is never behind an advert.

WHAT IT IS NOT

It does not read your documents. There is no text recognition, no search inside
a page, and no analysis of any kind - it photographs paper and makes a PDF.
