About this app

Drone Swarm is an app used for creating autonomous drone swarms with compatible DJI drones. The app allows you to connect multiple compatible DJI drones in a swarm and fly them together. Connected drones communicate with each other exchanging positions in real time. The drone flies autonomously by coordinating with its swarm. The swarm controller drone controls whether the swarm flies in a V formation or as a chaotic group. The swarm controller can be flown autonomously in position mode by tapping on the map. The app allows you to view the video stream from the drone’s primary camera during the flight operation.

Drone Swarm app is used with DJI drones and requires a DJ RC controller to be connected to the device. Following DJI drones are supported:

1. Matrice 350 RTK
2. Matrice 300 RTK
3. DJI Mini 3
4. DJI Mini 3 Pro
5. DJI Mavic 3M
6. DJI Mavic 3 Enterprise Series
7. Matrice 30 Series

The app was developed by DeepMAV.ai.

The app requires two or more compatible DJI drones, each controlled by a compatible DJI RC controller, and each running the Drone Swarm app. The app requires that all devices connected to RC controllers for each drone are connected on the same Wi-Fi network for discoverability.

The app allows you to safely take off, land and return to takeoff location by using the flight control panel on the bottom.

Creating a Drone Swarm

To create a new swarm, on one of the drones select Start Swarm. A new swarm is created and broadcast to other drones to connect to. The drone that starts the swarm is the swarm controller.

To connect to an existing swarm, press the Connect button and select the swarm from the list of discovered swarms by the unique ID. Once selected, the drone swarm connection is established.

When put into autonomous flight mode, a drone that is part of the swarm will automatically navigate, following the swarm. The swarm controller may put the swarm into Formation mode. When in Formation mode, the swarm drones organize themselves into a V formation and fly autonomously following the swarm controller. When Formation mode is turned off, the drones in the swarm will fly in a chaotic group around the swarm controller. Autonomous drone flight may be stopped by either disconnecting from the swarm, or by stopping autonomous flight mode. During flight, drones automatically enable obstacle avoidance to avoid colliding with other drones or other obstacles.

Simulator Mode

Drone Swarm app allows you to test your drone flight in simulator mode. Simply start the app, turn on your drone, make sure the RC is connected to the drone, and connect the device to the RC. Pressing the Sim On/Off button switches between simulator and normal mode. When the simulator is turned on, the button will show the Sim On status.

In simulator mode, the drone will perform takeoff, autonomous flight, landing, or return to home functions, as if it was truly flying. The map will display the drone’s simulated location. All other functions of the app are enabled including Swarm and Connect modes and video preview.

No account creation or login required. Simply start the app and start flying.

Make sure to fly responsibly and obey your local drone regulations.
