About this app

Pinglight shows you what's quietly broadcasting around you, right now, in plain English.

Phones, earbuds, trackers, fitness bands, smart-home gadgets — a surprising number of nearby devices constantly announce themselves over Bluetooth Low Energy. Pinglight turns that invisible chatter into a simple radar view, so you can see what's nearby without guesswork.

WHAT IT DOES

- A dark, live radar screen shows every nearby broadcast as a blip, updating in real time.
- Tap any blip for a plain-English guess at what it probably is (earbuds, a fitness tracker, a phone, a proximity tag, and more) — never a scary claim, just an honest, confidence-rated guess.
- Every identification comes with a visible confidence level and an explanation of why, so you always know how much to trust it.
- A simple session log shows what came and went while you were watching.

WHAT IT WILL NEVER DO

Pinglight is built to a strict honesty standard:

- It never claims to detect recording, listening, spying, or tracking devices. Nearby broadcasts are described as "consistent with" a type of device — never as proof of anything.
- It never touches your location. Ever. Pinglight only asks for the one Android permission that lets it read Bluetooth broadcasts (BLUETOOTH_SCAN, flagged so the system knows it can never be used to infer your location) — nothing more. No GPS, no coarse location, no fine location, not even as a side effect.
- It never connects to any device it sees. Pinglight only listens to what's already being broadcast publicly over the air — it never pairs, never connects, never sends anything back.
- It never talks to the internet. There is no server, no account, no sign-in, no analytics, and no ads anywhere in this app. Every broadcast you see is processed entirely on your own phone and forgotten the moment you close the app.

WHAT IT HONESTLY CAN'T DO

Bluetooth broadcasts are limited by nature, and Pinglight says so plainly, in the app: distances are rough estimates, not precise measurements; device names can be spoofed; many devices rotate their identifiers over time; and devices that aren't currently broadcasting won't show up at all. Pinglight would rather tell you the limits than oversell what a scan can know.
