About this app

Turn your phone into a car-style speedometer. GPS Speedometer shows your real speed from GPS on a sporty dashboard, records your trips with a route map and warns you when you go over your speed limit.

A DASHBOARD THAT FEELS LIKE A CAR
Your speed is shown as a big digital readout and on a carbon-fibre analog gauge, in km/h, mph or knots, with an optional second unit underneath. An animated sports car drives with you: the wheels spin with your speed, the headlights brighten as you go faster, the high beam comes on above 120 km/h and the tail lights brighten when you slow down. Prefer something simpler? Tap GAUGE for a full-screen dial with a digital readout and your trip stats, with the screen kept on.

TRIP COMPUTER AND ROUTE MAPS
Tap Start and the app records distance, time, average and max speed. Pause for a stop, or turn on Auto pause and the trip clock waits while you stand still. Recording carries on with the screen off, with your live speed in a notification. Every trip is saved to History with a route map coloured by speed. Share a trip as an image, or export your trips as a CSV file for Excel or Google Sheets.

CAR, MOTORBIKE, BICYCLE, WALKING OR TRAIN
Pick what you're travelling in. Each vehicle keeps its own speed limit, gauge range and odometer, which adds up every trip just like a car's. Filter your history by vehicle.

SPEED-LIMIT WARNINGS
Set your limit and the display turns red when you go over it. Choose a beep or a spoken warning, plus vibration, and have it repeat every 10 seconds while you stay over the limit.

ALWAYS IN VIEW
• HUD mode: lay the phone below the windshield at night and the mirrored readout reflects in the glass.
• Floating speed window: keep your speed on top of your navigation app during a trip.
• Home-screen widget: your live speed and trip stats, or your last trip.
• GPS info: satellites, accuracy, altitude, coordinates and a compass.

MAKE IT YOURS
Choose the theme and accent colour, set the app's own screen brightness for night driving, and pick the gauge style: tick marks, a top-speed marker and three numeral styles.

ACCURATE AND EASY ON THE BATTERY
Distance is calculated from GPS speed rather than by adding up position jumps, so standing at traffic lights doesn't add phantom distance. Brief GPS glitches are filtered out, so a one-second spike can't set a false max speed or trigger the warning. ECO mode takes a GPS fix every 3 seconds instead of every second, and GPS is switched off when you stop a trip.

PRIVATE BY DESIGN
Your location is used on your phone only to work out speed and distance, and trips are stored only on your device. There's no account to create, no ads and nothing is uploaded; the only download is the list of our other apps. The app never asks for "Allow all the time" location access.

GOOD TO KNOW
GPS needs a clear view of the sky, so the first fix can take a moment and readings can drop out in tunnels or between tall buildings. Car speedometers usually read a little high by design, so GPS speed is often a few km/h lower than your dashboard shows.

GPS Speedometer is a driving aid, not a replacement for your vehicle's speedometer. Always follow the speed limit and road signs, keep your eyes on the road, and set up the app before you start driving.
