About this app
Distant Phone replaces the default Phone and Messages apps on your device. You make and receive calls, and send SMS messages as usual, but the app also announces who's calling and what messages you've received. No need to look at the screen.
The app is designed for visually impaired users, drivers, emergency services workers, and anyone who prefers listening to reading.
CALLS
A full-featured dialer: dialing with contact search, accepting and rejecting calls, a conversation screen with speakerphone, hold, and touchtone dialing, and a call log with history for each number. Dual SIM and Bluetooth headset support.
MESSAGES
A full-featured SMS app: conversation list, chat, sending and receiving messages, new SMS notifications, and search. Ready-made text templates for frequent replies.
VOICE-OVER
The app speaks incoming numbers and notifications aloud using your device's speech synthesizer. The speech rate is adjustable. Each voice-over type is enabled separately—leave only the one you need.
ACCESSIBILITY SERVICE (Accessibility Service API)
The app uses the Accessibility API only to retrieve notification text and read it aloud using the device's speech synthesizer. The text is processed on the device when the notification is displayed and is not stored anywhere. No user data is collected or transmitted when using this permission. This permission can be enabled manually and disabled at any time.
