About this app

Chat with people around you without internet — over Bluetooth, Wi-Fi or a shared network. LEAPTRX is an offline, end-to-end encrypted messenger for festivals, camping, flights, conferences, coworking spaces and dorms: no account, no phone number, no mobile data needed.

LEAPTRX finds people nearby who use the app and carries messages directly between phones over a shared Wi-Fi network, Bluetooth, or Apple's peer-to-peer Wi-Fi between iPhones and iPads. Not only people you already know: in coworking spaces, dorms, airports and cafés, people can write first and meet after.

SAY HI FIRST
• Your profile — about you, or a business's hours and links — for people nearby
• People nearby browse it, tap Message or save your business card to their phone
• See how many people opened your profile, never who

YOU DECIDE WHO REACHES YOU
• First messages from new people wait in Message requests: Accept, Block or Delete
• Choose who can message you, or turn on Invisible Mode
• Report a person, message, profile or group member: it blocks them at once and lets you email the report to [e-mail]

PRIVATE AND VERIFIED
• End-to-end encrypted, always
• Each chat has a six-word safety phrase to compare in person; if a key changes, the chat pauses until you verify again
• No account, phone number or email; no analytics or ads; your messages never pass through a server of ours

GROUPS AND CHATS
• Private or public groups with admins; public groups show on the nearby radar and joining needs an admin's approval
• Photos and GIFs, replies, reactions, delete for everyone, receipts, typing indicators, App Lock with fingerprint or face unlock
• Disappearing messages after 1 hour, 24 hours or 7 days — deleted on both phones
• Messages can hop through other phones running LEAPTRX to reach further

WHEN APART
• Optional, off by default: contacts you met nearby who also turn on "Stay in touch when apart" can text, reply and react through public Nostr relays, still end-to-end encrypted
• Group admins can turn it on per group
• Photos stay nearby-only

FOR AGES 13+
Under 18s are hidden from people they don't know, only contacts added in person can message them, and they share no profile or public groups.

GOOD TO KNOW
Range is Bluetooth and your local network, extended by other phones running the app. Not for emergencies. On iPhone, Android phones running LEAPTRX nearby wake it if you allow location "Always" (only to notice them; your location is never read or shared); otherwise keep the app open for the most reliable delivery.
