About this app

You mean to text your parents, and then the day is gone.
It is rarely about time. It is not knowing what to say.

Dear takes care of both.
It calls you at the time you set, and the words are already waiting.

■ Reminders you define
Who, when, and what to say are all yours to decide.
Morning check-in, a thank-you, a birthday wish - you name the card yourself.
Repeat daily, weekly, monthly, yearly, or just once. Birthdays can follow the lunar calendar.

■ Your own words
The app never forces a sentence on you.
What you wrote appears in the send screen, and you can edit it right there.
Write several and they rotate each time you send.
Suggestions are there only for when you are stuck.

■ It tells you what day it is
The send screen shows special days such as New Year's Day and Christmas.
With the app set to Korean, Japanese or Chinese, it also shows the 24 solar terms - Start of Spring, Summer Solstice, Winter Solstice - along with Lunar New Year, Chuseok and other special days.
Once you know it is the winter solstice, the rest of the sentence writes itself.
Term dates are computed from the sun's position, so they stay correct every year.

■ One tap to send
Tapping the button opens your messaging app with the recipient and text already filled in.
You press send yourself. The app never sends on your behalf.
Everything stays in the messaging app you already use, and replies arrive there too.

■ Nothing to install on their side
The person receiving does not need an app or an account.
It arrives as the same plain text message they always get.

■ Streaks
See how many days in a row you have reached out.
Miss a day and nothing scolds you. Just start again.

■ Permissions and data
No SMS permission. No contacts-read permission.
Only the one contact you pick in the system picker is handed to the app.
Your reminders and messages stay on this device and are never uploaded.

■ 12 languages
Korean, English, Japanese, Chinese (Traditional and Simplified), Thai, Malay,
Indonesian, Spanish, French, Portuguese (Brazil), and German.
You can pick the language yourself in Settings.

A check-in does not have to be grand.
"Did you sleep well?" is enough.
Remembering to send it is the hard part. That is what Dear is for.
