About this app
Docly is an offline PDF editor and Word editor. Open a PDF or a DOCX file on your phone, change the words and save a copy. Excel spreadsheets, PowerPoint slides and plain text open in the same app. Documents stay on this phone. Docly does not ask for an account, does not upload your files, and does not show ads.
Use it when you need a PDF editor, a DOCX editor or a Word document editor that works with no internet connection.
Open these files
• PDF (.pdf). View the pages, then edit the text.
• Word (.docx). Older Word files (.doc) open too and saving makes a modern .docx.
• Excel (.xlsx and .xls). Edit rows, columns and cells. Older sheets save as .xlsx.
• PowerPoint (.pptx and .ppt). Read and edit slide text add a slide or remove one. Older decks save as .pptx.
• OpenDocument (.odt), for LibreOffice and Word.
• Rich text (.rtf).
• Markdown (.md), with headings, lists and links.
• Web page (.html). View the page, then edit the source. Scripts do not run.
• CSV tables (.csv).
• Plain text (.txt).
Write and format
Use bold, italic, underline, and strikethrough. Set headings, body text, bullets, numbered lists, a checklist or a quote. Change font colour and highlight. Add a link. Align left, centre or right or justify. Find a word, then undo or redo. The editor shows a word count and a character count.
A spreadsheet can gain a row or a column. A presentation can gain a slide. English letters can be written in Hindi, Marathi, Punjabi, Gujarati, or Urdu as you type, so a document can be written in that script from an English keyboard.
Save a copy and leave the original
Docly copies a file into the app when you open it. The original stays untouched until you tap Save. Save puts a new copy in Downloads/Docly, or in a folder you choose. You can share that copy or print it with the Android share sheet and print screen. If you leave Keep a private draft on, unsaved edits stay on this phone so you can restore them. Android backup of Docly is turned off. Deleting a file inside Docly removes only Docly's copy.
Private by design
There is no sign-in and no cloud library. The app does not use the internet to send documents anywhere. A picture that lives on the internet inside a file is not downloaded. Switch the app language to English, Hindi, Marathi, Punjabi, Gujarati, or Urdu. Text size, and a light or dark theme, follow the choice you make in Settings.
Read this before you edit a finished file
Docly cannot open a password-protected file.
Saving an edited PDF writes the edited text. The original page layout is not kept. Columns, pictures, and special fonts may not come across. A scanned PDF with no text layer has nothing to copy. You can still type a new document and save it as a PDF.
A Word, OpenDocument, or rich-text file with tables, pictures, or a complex layout shows the original page first. Saving after an edit writes the edited text.
Excel formulas are shown as their current values. Saving keeps those values. Very large sheets show the first 2,000 rows and 80 columns.
PowerPoint pictures and exact placement stay in the copy you opened until you save an edit.
How to start
Tap New to create a text file, a Word document, a PDF, a spreadsheet, or slides. Tap Open a file to pick one from your phone. View the saved file, tap Edit, then tap Save when the copy is ready.
People use Docly to correct a letter, update a CV, fix a school note, change a price list, edit a CSV export, or rewrite a slide before a meeting. It is a phone document editor for work you want to keep on the device.
