About this app
DocWala is a document scanner. Photograph any piece of paper and it becomes a clean PDF on your phone: bank statements, GST invoices, rent agreements, exam forms, property tax receipts, electricity bills. Point at the page and the app finds the edges, straightens it and saves it.
EVERYTHING THAT MATTERS IS FREE
Saving and sharing your PDF is free. There is no watermark on any scan, ever, whether you pay or not. There is no subscription and no trial that turns into one.

READS INDIAN LANGUAGES, NOT JUST ENGLISH
Most document scanners can read English off your page and stop there. This one reads ten Indian languages as well: Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Bengali, Gujarati, Odia and Punjabi.
Once the text is read, it is searchable. Look for a figure in a Tamil water bill or a reference number in a Hindi property tax receipt and you will find it, without opening every document one by one.
Hindi, Marathi and English work straight away. The other eight need a one-time download of 1–6 MB, which the app shows you before it starts so you can decide on a metered connection. After that they work offline. They are free — they are not an upgrade, and they never will be.
WORK WITH PDFs YOU ALREADY HAVE
Send a PDF to the app from WhatsApp, Gmail or your Files app and it joins your library like anything else. Read its text, compress it, protect it, split it or print it. A file you received is left exactly as it arrived unless you ask for a change.
WHAT THE APP DOES NOT DO
• No account. No signup. No phone number, no email, no OTP.
• No cloud. Your scans are stored on this phone and are not uploaded anywhere.
• Scanning and text recognition run on the device itself.
• No analytics and no crash reporting.
• The app never asks for camera permission. Photos are taken by Android's own scanner and camera.
• We do not store the password of a protected PDF, so keep it somewhere safe — we cannot recover it for you.
ABOUT ADS AND THE ₹99 OPTION
The app is paid for by one small ad in your document library. There is no ad when the app opens, no ad before a scan, and no ad that interrupts an export, a share or a text extraction.
If you would rather not see it, ₹99 removes it. One payment through Google Play, not a subscription — you are never charged again. It removes advertising and nothing else. Every feature listed above stays exactly as free after you pay as it was before, because the ad is the only thing you are paying to remove.
Our ads are non-personalised. We removed the Android advertising ID from the app so it cannot be used to profile you. Google, who serves the ads, still receives your device's IP address and basic app and diagnostic information — our privacy policy says exactly what that covers, in plain language.
PERMISSIONS
The app asks for internet access, which is used for two things: serving the ad, and downloading a language pack when you choose one. It does not ask for camera, contacts, location or storage permissions.
Play will also list two permissions we do not use: run at startup in the background (FOREGROUND_SERVICE) and prevent phone from sleeping (WAKE_LOCK). Neither is ours. Both are declared by Google's advertising library, which the app includes to show the one ad, and they are merged into the app whether they are used or not. No code we wrote holds a wake lock or runs a background service, and neither permission asks you for anything or shows a prompt.
