If you are considering applying for U.S. citizenship, an important step in the process is the civics test, which is conducted during your naturalization interview. This portion of the test is oral.
If you file Form N-400 before October 20, 2025, you will take the 2008 naturalization civics test. A USCIS officer will ask you up to 10 questions from a list of 100 official civics questions, and you must answer at least 6 correctly to pass.
If you file Form N-400 on or after October 20, 2025, you will take the 2025 naturalization civics test. A USCIS officer will ask you up to 20 questions from a list of 128 official civics questions, and you must answer at least 12 correctly to pass.
