Read your own rain gauge, log the millimetres, and see at a glance whether the beds need water and how full the barrel is - fully offline.
Rainfall Cask Diary is a quiet, practical journal for gardeners who keep a manual rain gauge. Walk out, read the cylinder, tap in the number. The app turns those daily readings into totals, charts, a soil water balance and a rain-barrel estimate.
LOG IN SECONDS
- Enter a daily gauge reading in millimetres or inches, with optional snow-water.
- Log today or any past day; a new reading for the same day replaces the old one.
- The Today tab shows an animated gauge cylinder filled to your last reading, with 7-day, 30-day and month totals.
SEE THE PATTERN
- Rolling 7- and 30-day totals plus weekly, monthly and seasonal aggregates.
- Dry spells - runs of consecutive days under 1 mm - appear as ochre bands on the chart, so a long gap between showers is impossible to miss.
KNOW WHEN TO WATER
- A soil water bucket for sand, loam or clay fills with rain, drains above capacity and dries by a monthly evaporation rate for your climate band.
- When the bucket drops below half, the app suggests watering and tells you the deficit in litres for your bed area.
FILL THE BARREL
- Roof catchment calculator: roof area x rain x runoff coefficient gives the litres flowing into your barrel.
- An animated barrel fills up to its capacity and shows the overflow when the rain outpaces it.
