Duru turns the material you are actually studying into a course.
Upload a textbook chapter, a class handout, a slide deck or a PDF you were given, or photograph the pages of your book, and Duru reads it into vocabulary flashcards, the grammar patterns behind them, example sentences and a short test for each lesson. Nothing is invented from a generic word list: the course is built from your own pages.
ALREADY USE ANKI?
Import your .apkg and keep the deck you have spent months building. Your cards come across as they are, split by deck, and then get the thing a deck cannot give you: a tutor that says them back to you.
WHAT ONE FILE BECOMES
• Vocabulary flashcards on a spaced repetition schedule, so a word comes back just before you would have forgotten it
• The grammar patterns behind the sentences, with exercises written only from words you have already met
• A short test for each lesson, built from that lesson rather than a bank
• An AI tutor you can talk to out loud
TALKING TO IT
The tutor runs on a live speech model. You speak, it hears you, it answers, with no push-to-talk in between. It is fenced in by your own course, so it uses the words you have met, it slows down whenever you ask, and it explains in your own language when you are stuck. Ask how a word or phrase is written and it appears on your screen, spelt, conjugated and used in a sentence.
WITHOUT A FILE OF YOUR OWN
Nine sample units are built in, in English, Korean, Japanese, Chinese, Spanish, French, German, Italian and Russian, so you can see a finished course about a minute after signing up.
NOTHING IS LOCKED IN
Your deck exports to Anki from the website, as a file it imports directly, with your course and lesson names kept as its deck and subdeck. You can also download everything Duru holds about you as a single file whenever you like.
WHAT IT COSTS
The free tier stays free: three lessons a month from your own material, with cards, tests and grammar drills, and half an hour with the tutor to try it. Whatever you have imported stays yours to review, test and drill without limit. Paid plans raise the import allowance and add more time with the tutor. There is no course to buy. You bring your own material.
ON THE PHONE AND IN THE BROWSER
The schedule lives on the server rather than on one device, so the desktop picks up exactly where the phone left off.
HOW YOUR MATERIAL IS HANDLED
Building a course means sending your file to an AI provider to be processed, and talking to the tutor means your microphone audio reaches an AI provider. Only upload material you have the right to use this way. The privacy policy lists every provider and how long anything is kept.
Duru is a study tool, not a teacher. AI output is a draft for you to review, and the app always lets you edit it before you study from it.
