About this app

Dharmapedia aims to help make accessible in French, with the greatest accuracy, the inestimable heritage of the Buddha's teachings as they have been transmitted and practiced until today, in India and Tibet.

This encyclopedic dictionary constitutes a humble tribute to Dagpo Rinpoche, the first Tibetan lama to arrive in France in 1960, and to his tireless activity to preserve and share this unique heritage with the greatest benevolence, high standards and humility.

Over the centuries, Buddhism has spread to many countries, initially especially in Asia and the Middle East, but none of them has translated so systematically and comprehensively, over several centuries, and throughout their diversity, the teachings of the Buddha as well as all their comments composed by the great sages of India, as was the case in Tibet.

This dictionary is intended for all those who wish to deepen their knowledge or their practice of Buddhism through its very sources, in the Tibetan language, and in Sanskrit.

Its entries are deliberately concise, as a reminder that the transmission of this teaching is essentially oral and practical. However, they include some explanations to shed light on concepts which, for many of them, are new to us.

It is based on a wide variety of authentic sources in the Tibetan language: the teachings of the Buddha himself, their canonical commentaries by Indian and Tibetan masters, study manuals from the great monasteries of the land of snow, various Tibetan philosophical dictionaries, as well as the teachings given in France and around the world for more than forty years by Dagpo Rinpoche.

We hope you find this book useful, and that it does even a little bit to promote love, compassion and wisdom in the world - which would be a humble tribute to all the masters of the world. India and Tibet who have worked and are still working for the good of all beings.

All your comments, your encouragement, or your help will be invaluable and beneficial to us in helping us improve this modest tool.

We hope to be able to continue to enrich its content, in order to make it always more reliable and complete.

Good study, reflection, and meditation everyone,
Jeremy lafitte
