About this app

Khmerism is a Khmer keyboard built around the way Khmer is actually written. It runs entirely on your phone: no accounts, no ads, no analytics, no tracking. The app asks for no Android permissions at all — it does not even have internet permission, so nothing you type can leave your device.

A LAYOUT MADE FOR KHMER
Consonants sit on the left and vowels on the right, so your thumbs alternate the way Khmer syllables are built. Nearly every letter is on the first layer; only ten consonants live under Shift. There is no QWERTY to learn first.

SMART MODE
Turn it on and the keyboard follows Khmer orthography for you:
• The adaptive key changes to the right diacritic for the consonant you just typed — two taps for ប៉, ក៏, ន៍, ស៊.
• After ្ the keyboard shows the sub-consonant letters, then returns on its own.
• Double-tap a vowel for its pair: ា+ា = ាំ, េ+េ = េះ, ោ+ោ = ោះ.
• Vowels and signs are reordered into correct spelling order as you type.

WORD SUGGESTIONS THAT STAY ON YOUR PHONE
More than 73,000 Khmer words, from the Samdech Chuon Nath dictionary together with the Open Institute and SBBIC word lists. Suggestions appear as you type, offline, in milliseconds. The keyboard also learns the words and word pairs you use most — up to 3,000 Khmer and 3,000 English words, kept in the app's own storage and never sent anywhere. Clear them at any time in Settings.

KEY COLOURS
Consonants yellow, dependent vowels and punctuation blue, Khmer numerals pink, independent vowels green. Beginners and children find keys by colour instead of hunting letter by letter. Colours and Smart Mode work together or apart.

ENGLISH, NUMBERS AND EMOJI
• A full English keyboard with its own number row, a symbols layer, and capitals where a sentence needs them.
• Khmer and Arabic numerals, punctuation and symbols on the 123 layer; flick a key up for the Khmer digit.
• An emoji keyboard with Recently Used and seven categories.
• Swipe sideways on the space bar to change language; swipe up for emoji.

BUILT TO FEEL RIGHT
Key press previews, hold to repeat, hold delete to remove whole words, key sounds and a light tick that follow your phone's own sound and vibration settings, dark mode, landscape, and a layout that opens out on tablets.

THE APP
An installation guide, a user guide, a typing test area, and settings for key sounds, key colours, Smart Mode and word suggestions. The app itself speaks Khmer, English and 中文.

PRIVACY
We collect nothing. There is no sign-in, no advertising SDK, no analytics, and no network code of any kind. The words the keyboard learns and the settings you choose stay in the app's private storage on your device, and are kept out of Google's backup. Khmerism never remembers anything typed in a password, email address or web address field, or in any field where an app asks keyboards not to remember.
