About this game

"Have you ever heard a myth about cafes that turn back time?”

I no longer care about anything after what happened two years ago. I made a mistake... and now I lost the most important person in my life. I don't think I deserve anything. I’m simply disgusted with myself. Guilt, regret, and loss... they will haunt me for eternity. Even the gift I have for him is meaningless now.

Mina is a shy girl who lost her dearest one. Guilt, regret, and sadness haunt her after that accident, causing her to blame herself. Two years has passed and she's still trapped in her past. Two days before Valentine’s day, she meets Taku, a waiter who introduced her to a cafe named EDDA. Dragged by her little curiosity and her friend's compulsion, she finds out that through magic in that cafe, she was given a second chance. Will it save her heart? Will she move forward or stay in the past?

“And when the coffee starts to drip, the magic begins...”

Yes it's short, but I have to appreciate this for what it is. It was made as part of a game jam, so it had to be done in a short amount of time. Having said that, it's fantastic. It's also good to see that Ren'Py has gotten so much more stable for mobile exports. The one small complaint is that the voice audio is much louder and needed to be turned down. That is an easy tweak in the menu, though.

Edda Cafe is a short visual novel about Mina, a woman who regrets her past, and Edda Cafe, a cafe which helps ease one's regrets. It's so short, I'm afraid to explain more because it can be a spoiler. I'd phrase it like so: it's simple and works, but it's not complex enough to detail. This aside, I'm not a fan of the background's color. It's good, but nothing pops out and looks static, so it looks like boring wallpaper instead of an expressive setting. In the end, it's a nice harmless game. 3/5.

A tender short story about losing someone close to you, with a single choice for the player to make. Despite it's short runtime and lack of interactivity this is a beautiful game, with gorgeous art, sweet music and lovingly written prose. I definitely recommend this to anyone looking to check out the visual novel genre. Minor observations: the English script is wonderful but there are a couple minor typos that keep it from being perfect. Also Taku's voice is loud and clips a little.
