The Una Word per Oggi (UPPO) calendar, a veritable treasure chest of daily biblical meditations, was created in 1971 by the spouses Erma and Arturo Wiens. It has the merit of being the high-end product of daily biblical and evangelical spirituality.
The calendar has two main purposes:
1. Spread the Bible, allowing its visual usability thanks to the verse that occupies each day's page
2. Allow us to encounter the gospel, the good news of what God accomplished in Jesus Christ two thousand years ago and which he still accomplishes today in the lives of all human beings, thanks to the short meditation found on the back of the leaflet.
With this app you can:
· Read the verse of the day and the meditation
· Follow a Bible reading plan
· Share the verses and meditations with whoever you want
· Receive “reading suggestions” and access special promotions designed for you
· Discover the “world” that moves around Edizioni GBU
UPPO is a daily journey into the great richness and beauty of the Bible, a companion that will faithfully accompany us every day of 2024.
As many as 70 writers offered their help with short, penetrating and meaningful "twitters" with which to help us navigate the Word of God to find the wonderful announcement of the gospel. Inside you will find moments and weeks dedicated to small miniseries in which a particular topic or book of the Bible is presented.
At the footer of each meditation you will find indications for the Bible reading plan: «The Bible in a year». If you use the entire plan (read the four passages every day) it will allow you to read the New Testament and the Psalms twice in one year and the rest of the Bible once. But if this approach seems too demanding for you, you can read only the first two passages in the first year and the third and fourth passages in the second year.
On specific days you will find how to access promotions designed specifically for you!
Edizioni GBU is a publishing house whose motto is "At the service of a faith that thinks".
They were officially born in 1965, directed and conducted by Marcella Fanelli with the important support of Jean Elliot, two women... two forerunners of the times, two pioneers of the faith! The need was immediately felt to accompany the work within the university with editorial work, both of one's own writing but also and above all of translation.
After relying on outsiders for 15 years, strongly encouraged by the then general secretary of "IFES" (English GBU) and other Italian brothers, Marcella Fanelli (former national GBU secretary since 1957) and Jean Elliot accompanied the birth of the publishing house " Edizioni GBU” whose motto is precisely “AT THE SERVICE OF A FAITH THAT THINKS!”
For this reason, the book production of Edizioni GBU focuses on the translation and publication above all of Biblical Commentaries (a selection of which you can see outside on the counter) to accompany and enrich the reading and study of the Word of God, and of texts dedicated to the connection of faith with culture, society and major ethical questions... (we have texts written by psychologists, doctors, researchers, philosophers and Christian thinkers), passing through authors such as J. Stott, D. Carson, Packer, C.S. Lewis and many others.
