What is LPP+AR?
LPP+AR is a web application that uses artificial intelligence and augmented reality to help identify and classify pressure injuries (PIs) using your device's camera.
The name stands for:
PI: “Pressure Injuries,” the current term that replaces the former pressure ulcers.
AR: Augmented Reality, because the application displays an estimated injury category on the captured image.
What is it for?
This tool is designed for healthcare professionals, nursing students, caregivers, and researchers who need to quickly recognize and classify pressure injuries.
The application analyzes the image and displays a probability chart with the most likely stage of the injury, from superficial to stage IV.
The goal is to support clinical assessment and facilitate early detection.
How does it work?
It's very simple to use:
Open the application on your phone or computer.
Point the camera at the affected skin area.
The system analyzes the image using an artificial intelligence model.
In just a few seconds, a graphic appears showing the estimated injury category.
This allows for rapid guidance in patient assessment.
How was LPP+AR created?
This tool combines clinical knowledge with accessible technology.
It was developed using:
Teachable Machine (Google): a platform that allows image recognition models to be trained without programming.
TensorFlow: technology that allows artificial intelligence models to run directly in the browser.
A custom web design that integrates the camera, the AI model, and the visualization of results.
The model was trained with images classified by stage (I, II, III, and IV) to learn to recognize different types of pressure injuries.
