The current header is the result of the merger of two historic media outlets from the Canary Islands. La Provincia/DLP is the oldest newspaper in the province of Las Palmas and the regional leader in dissemination.
Diario de Las Palmas was founded in 1893 by Fernando de León y Castillo, and La Provincia, in 1911 with the aim of creating the province of Las Palmas.
In 1978 both newspapers became the first Iberian Press outlets. The evening newspaper Diario de Las Palmas ceased to be published in January 2000 when it merged with La Provincia.
The Canary Press Club, which began its journey on February 5, 1980, carries out an intense activity: debates, seminars, courses, conferences, exhibitions, cultural events.
