epub.us is a free ebook reader for classic literature. Browse a catalogue of books whose copyright has expired, download the ones you want, and read them on your phone — offline, with the page you stopped on remembered.
HOW THE READER WORKS
Books are downloaded to your device and rendered there. Pages turn; they do not scroll. Three reading backgrounds — paper, sepia and night — three text sizes and two margin widths, set once and remembered. The reading font is Literata, designed for screens.
HOLD A WORD TO MARK IT OR LOOK IT UP
Press and hold any word in a book and the app offers two things: mark it, or show what it means. Marks are highlighted in the text and collected under the bookmark button in the reader, so tapping one takes you back to that line. Definitions come from Wiktionary and are saved on the device, so a word you have looked up once opens again with no connection.
IT REMEMBERS WHERE YOU STOPPED
Every book keeps its own position, chapter and percentage. Close the app mid-sentence and it opens there. Your library puts the book you were reading at the top, with an estimate of how much is left.
IT READS WITH NO SIGNAL
A book you have downloaded opens with no connection at all — on a plane, on a train, anywhere. Your library still displays when you are offline.
NO ACCOUNT NEEDED
There is nothing to sign up for: no email address, no password, no reading history on anyone's server. What you read stays on your phone.
THE NEW TAB LINKS OUT, IT DOES NOT DOWNLOAD
A separate tab lists recent books that are still in copyright. epub.us does not host those files and says so: each row is an ordinary web link to that book's retail listing, opened in your browser.
FREE: NO ADS, NO SUBSCRIPTION, NO IN-APP PURCHASES
There is no advertising anywhere in the app, no subscription, no unlockable chapters and no timers. Nothing is collected about you: there is no ad network and no analytics in this build, and what you read never leaves your phone.
WHERE THE BOOKS COME FROM
epub.us has been cataloguing public-domain literature for years, and every title carries a written description rather than a scraped metadata dump. The files come from long-established public-domain archives, and copyright status is checked before anything is offered as a download.
