About this app

When you need real help and there's no signal, PlainMap shows you exactly where to go — completely offline.

PlainMap is a real, working offline map of the help around you: hospitals and urgent care, pharmacies, emergency and domestic-violence shelters, cooling and warming centers, water points and food banks, fuel stations and EV charging, police and fire stations, transit, and outdoor/trail landmarks. Every facility comes from real OpenStreetMap community data — 623 facilities in the San Francisco launch region alone — with an honest "verified vs. crowd-reported" trust label on every entry, never fabricated.

BUILT TO WORK WITH NO SIGNAL
• A real offline vector map (not just cached tiles) you can download per region and remove again to free space, any time.
• Every facility, every safety article, every first-aid instruction works with the network off. There is no feature on the critical path that requires connectivity.
• Optional background sync (off by default, Wi-Fi-only option) fetches only small, versioned public data files to keep your region current — entirely your choice, controlled from Settings.

FOR AN ACTUAL EMERGENCY
• Emergency Mode: one tap dials your region's real emergency number (911/999/112), shows the genuinely nearest hospital (never a guess — only shown with a real GPS fix), and can send an "I'm Safe" text with your coordinates to your emergency contact.
• A real, working Low-Battery Mode that actually widens GPS polling to save power — not just a label.
• Disaster Toolkits: pick your hazard (hurricane, flood, wildfire, earthquake, tornado, winter storm, heat wave) and see only the facility categories that matter for it, badged with any currently active NWS alert.
• Live weather and hazard alerts from api.weather.gov, with local notifications when a new one is issued.

YOUR MEDICAL INFORMATION, ON YOUR DEVICE ONLY
• An optional Medical ID card — allergies, conditions, medications, blood type, emergency contact — stored on-device only, never uploaded, with a native-printed wallet card.

LEARN BEFORE YOU NEED IT
• A Safety Education hub with 7 in-depth, plain-language articles: earthquake, flood, wildfire, lost in the wild, power outage, a go-bag checklist, and a mental-health crisis directory with real hotline numbers (988, 211).

YOUR INFORMATION STAYS YOURS
• No account, no company-run backend, no analytics, no tracking, no ads. Sync (when you turn it on) only ever fetches small public data files — it never sends anything about you.
• Local backup export/import (a plain JSON file through the system share sheet) — no cloud.

IN YOUR LANGUAGE
• Full English, Español, and 简体中文 support across every screen, including safety-critical content like first-aid steps and the Safety Education articles.
