About this app

A free app (which is the first one of a set) providing an easy-to-use self-assessment quiz. It tests knowledge of the commonest inheritance mechanism or mode, in the UK, for each of 15 "single-gene" Mendelian and mitochondrial disorders that may be learned at university. After taking the quiz, a score is awarded & the correct answers are listed for each question that was answered incorrectly. Due to the overlap between X-linked recessive and X-linked dominant modes, these conditions are classed together in the app as "X-linked", as in many current reference sources.

The app was created by both Edward and Adam Tobias. It was produced to help Glasgow University students (UK), by accompanying Prof Tobias's Medical Genetics textbooks (including "Essential Medical Genetics" and "Medical Genetics for the MRCOG and Beyond") and his educational website (www.EuroGEMS.org).

Prof Tobias is a researcher, lecturer and clinical geneticist. He is honoured to be an invited member of the Education Committee of the European Society of Human Genetics (ESHG) and of the European Board of Medical Genetics.
