I love this app. It makes my inner logophile happy. I particularly like that it doesn't just say "from old french" like many other etymology sites. The etymology will be taken back as far as possible (often to proto-indo-european for most English words). The app is functional, the ads are relatively unobtrusive (for a free app), and I have not yet found the limits of its database. If I had one wish it would be to be able to click on root words to get audio pronunciations.

It was a 4-5 star app (even with annoying ads). But, after an "update" last year that made them a lot worse (as well as impossible to avoid), I uninstalled it. And, as I saw just now, it still has too many ads. To the developers: While ads are necessary to help pay the bills, too many wreck apps--and yours is there. Too, $5/month is a steep price for the ad-free version. So, reduce the number of ads and make them less annoying, and I'll change my review.

it's so much more than just a dictionary. the linguistic history really helps a person to better understand what is being expressed. an absolutely invaluable resource for modern communication. Im hoping a free offline version of this app will be available soon.
