ExtraHalf is an overtime calculator and tip tracker for US hourly workers. It shows how much the new federal deduction for overtime and tips, the law people call "no tax on overtime" and "no tax on tips", takes off your US federal income tax.
For tax years 2025 through 2028, qualified overtime pay and qualified tips can be deducted on your federal return: up to $12,500 of overtime ($25,000 if you file jointly) and up to $25,000 of tips. The catch is that only the extra half of time and a half counts. If you earn $20 an hour and $30 for overtime, the deductible part is the $10, not the whole $30. Most people don't know their number. ExtraHalf works it out from your shifts or pay stubs.
START WITH A QUICK ESTIMATE
Answer four questions: hourly rate, overtime hours in a usual week, weekly tips and filing status. The overtime calculator shows the overtime tax deduction and the federal tax you could keep this year, line by line.
WHAT YOU CAN DO
- Use it as an hours tracker: log shifts with hours, cash tips and card tips, or add pay stub totals
- Watch your overtime tax deduction and tip deduction grow as a running total
- See how many hours are left before overtime starts this week or pay period
- Check your 2025 return: one pay stub is enough to see if you missed the overtime tax deduction or the tip deduction, and what an amended return could change
- Get the per-paycheck figure for the new W-4 lines, so the saving shows up in every paycheck instead of once a year
- Cross-check the overtime and tip amounts your employer reports on your W-2
- Export a year-end report (PDF and CSV) for you or your tax preparer
- Browse ten worked examples, from a warehouse worker to a barber
AN HOURS TRACKER THAT KNOWS THE TAX RULES
"No tax on overtime" does not mean all overtime escapes federal income tax. Only overtime required by federal law counts, and only the premium half of time and a half. ExtraHalf applies the rules for weekly overtime after 40 hours, hospital 8/80 schedules, and fire and police work periods. It flags pay that looks like overtime but may not qualify, such as daily overtime under state law or overtime that only your union contract requires. Claiming too much can mean a bill from the IRS later, so the overtime calculator shows its working.
A TIP TRACKER BUILT FOR "NO TAX ON TIPS"
Servers, bartenders, hotel staff, barbers, stylists and rideshare drivers can log cash tips, card tips and app tips in one place. Cash tips never appear on a form, so a daily tip log is your record. ExtraHalf counts the tips that qualify, keeps service charges separate, and shows the deduction against the $25,000 limit.
BUILT FOR HOURLY WORK
Warehouse and factory work, nursing, firefighting, police, construction trades, restaurants, hotels, salons, delivery and rideshare. Use it as a simple hours tracker and tip tracker all year, then hand over a clean report at tax time.
