About this app

Music Widget puts your music exactly where you need it — pinned to your home screen, one tap away.

A single transport-control widget that works across every major music app on your phone. Pick a source, see what's playing, skip / pause / play, walk through your favourites — all without opening the source app first.

WHAT'S INSIDE

• Five sources in one widget — Spotify, Apple Music, SoundCloud, Audius, and tens of thousands of free internet radio stations from Radio Browser. • Two sizes — compact 4×2 transport tile and 4×4 with an integrated favourites strip. • Live now-playing — title, artist, cover art and progress bar, all rendered inside the widget. • Smart skip — Next / Previous walks through your favourites for the active source when the current track has no queue. • Save favourites per source — Apple Music playlists, Spotify saved tracks, SoundCloud sets, Audius likes, radio stations. Each source keeps its own pinned list. • Master volume slider on the widget. • Theme-aware — accent colours shift with the active source (green / coral / orange / purple / red). • Hide sources you don't use — Settings > Visible sources; the widget reflows automatically. • Background playback for Audius and radio survives switching apps. • Rich tablet support, every layout scales on 7-inch and 10-inch tablets.

HOW IT WORKS

Spotify, Apple Music and SoundCloud are observed through Android's standard Media Session system — the same system the lock-screen "Now Playing" card uses. No sign-in, no account setup. If the source app is installed and playing, Music Widget reads the same metadata the OS exposes, and routes Play / Pause / Skip back the same way your headphone buttons do. Audius and Radio Browser use their public open APIs directly.

Android asks you to grant "Notification access" the first time you open the app — the same permission Wear OS, Bose, Sonos and Tesla apps request for cross-app media control. Music Widget reads media-control metadata only; notification content is never parsed or stored. Revoke any time in Settings > Notification access.

PRIVACY

• Zero ads, zero advertising SDKs. • Zero analytics, zero crash-reporting SDKs, no backend. • Audius handle, favourites and source prefs are stored locally. No copy leaves your phone. • Uninstalling removes all data instantly.

Direct network calls go only to Audius (search + likes) and Radio Browser (station directory). Spotify / Apple Music / SoundCloud playback happens inside the source app itself.

PERMISSIONS

INTERNET — fetch Audius / Radio Browser data. FOREGROUND_SERVICE (mediaPlayback) — Audius / radio audio survives switching apps. POST_NOTIFICATIONS — lock-screen now-playing card on Android 13+. BIND_NOTIFICATION_LISTENER_SERVICE — granted via Settings; required to read media-session metadata from Spotify / Apple Music / SoundCloud.

Music Widget is an independent app. It is not affiliated with, endorsed, sponsored, certified by, or in any partnership with Spotify AB, Apple Inc., SoundCloud Ltd., Audius Inc., or radio-browser.info. All trademarks referenced are the property of their respective owners and are used here strictly descriptively, to identify the apps already installed on your phone that Music Widget can interact with through Android's public cross-app media-control system.

Music Widget does NOT bundle or use the Spotify SDK, the Spotify Web API, Apple MusicKit, the SoundCloud Public API, or any other proprietary first-party SDK or paid API. It does not sign you in, does not access your account, does not transmit your data to those services, and does not modify their apps. It reads only the publicly-exposed Android MediaSession metadata that the OS's own "Now Playing" card reads, and routes the same media-button events your headphone buttons produce. The source apps remain in full control of their playback, accounts, ads and DRM.
