Fable Reader puts the picture books you make at Fable Designer onto the tablet, where they can be read.
A Fable Designer book starts with a description — a lesson someone wants to teach, or simply a story they want to tell. An original manuscript is written, illustrated with characters that stay consistent from page to page, and reviewed before it is delivered. No two accounts have the same shelf, because no book existed before it was asked for.
This app is the reading half of that. It holds a library that grows: each new book joins the shelf, and the shelf is different for every family.
READING
Books open as a two-page spread on the tablet's own screen. Pages turn with a real page-turn — the leaf curls, catches the light and falls, and it can be dragged with a finger rather than only tapped. Every book can also read itself aloud, with each word lit as it is spoken, so a new reader can follow along.
OFFLINE
Once a book has been added to the tablet, the pages and the narration are stored on the device. It reads with no connection at all — on a plane, in a car, anywhere.
GETTING STARTED
Fable Reader is a companion to a Fable Designer account, and books are made at fabledesigner.com rather than in this app. An adult signs in there, chooses which books go on the tablet's shelf, and pairs the device once with a code. After that the shelf keeps itself up to date.
Fable Reader contains no advertising and nothing to purchase. It collects no personal information from anyone. Accounts belong to adults, who decide what is created and what is placed on the shelf.
