About this app

The app provides information about the White Rose resistance group
It offers didactic information about the people and actions of the resistance group White Rose. On four thematically oriented tours (each 20 minutes) she takes you through the main building of the Ludwig-Maximilians-University (LMU) in Munich. The app is specially designed for use at the historical site, but can be used from any other location.

About the White Rose
"White Rose" is the name of a student resistance group that protested against the continuation of the war during the Second World War, accused crimes of the Nazi regime and called on the population to passive resistance.

It was a circle of friends around the medical students Hans Scholl and Alexander Schmorell. The core of the group also included Sophie Scholl, Willi Graf, Christoph Probst and Prof. Kurt Huber.

They formulated their protest and calls for sabotage and resistance in a total of six leaflets, which they produced from June 1942 to February 1943 and distributed in large numbers in Munich and other cities in Germany.

In February 1943, Hans and Sophie Scholl were discovered distributing leaflets and the group was subsequently broken up. Hans Scholl, Sophie Scholl, Christoph Probst, Alexander Schmorell, Kurt Huber, Willi Graf and Hans Leipelt were sentenced to death and executed by the Nazi regime. Numerous helpers received long prison sentences.

Creation of the app
"White Rose - The App" was created through a cooperation between the White Rose Foundation e.V., the Chair for Didactics of German Language and Literature at the LMU Munich and the State Office for Non-Governmental Museums. The tours and their contents were created by two student teachers. The app is continued and maintained by the Weiße Rose Stiftung e.V.
