About this app

Field Book is a simple app for collecting phenotypic notes in the field. This has traditionally been a laborious process requiring handwriting notes and transcribing data for analysis. Field Book was created to replace paper field books and to boost collection speed with increased data integrity.

Field Book uses custom layouts for different types of data that allow rapid data entry. Traits being collected are defined by the user and can be exported and transferred between devices. Sample files are provided with the installation.

Field Book is part of the broader PhenoApps initiative, an effort to modernize plant breeding and genetics data collection and organization via by developing new strategies and tools for data capture.

Development of Field Book has been supported by the Collaborative Crop Research Program of The McKnight Foundation, the National Science Foundation, the USDA National Institute for Food and Agriculture, and the United States Agency for International Development. I have used this for two seasons and enjoy it (5 stars). However, the new updates are crashing my device whenever pressing anything in the Collect window. I will have to change my data collection this season if no resolution is found. Edit: Trevor was a great help resolving my issue promptly. Simply reach out to them for assistance.

I've been using this app for several years and find it very useful. Making customized trait lists has greatly increased its usefulness, especially since I can add descriptions and resources for students to use. I don't like the new tutorial format, however - the pulsing/flashing circles are annoying and distracting. The old tutorial was fine!

It's a most important app for agriculture sector researchers, students, scientist and technicians. Most important thing is this app is totally free. Even it is a free app, it do not show any kind of ads (this was impressive point for me). 5 stars are also less for this app. Totally satisfied. Trevor Rife the person behind this app is also supportive. Whenever I got into any problem he solved it very soon. Thanks Trevor for your support and help.
