Memorial and Educational Site Emergency Reception Camp Giessen – The Official App
The former Emergency Reception Camp Giessen was the central point of arrival for refugees and resettlers from East Germany. Nearly one million people arrived in the Federal Republic of Germany through this camp. With its decades-long history—from its establishment in October 1945 as a reception center for expellees to its closure in 2018 as an initial reception facility for refugees and asylum seekers from around the world—this site offers a unique perspective on flight, freedom, and German history. The app guides visitors through the exhibition and grounds, shares personal stories, and provides information about the site's history and the people who began a new life here.
