About this app
Fontavio is a map of drinking water and other water-related services for travelers, runners, cyclists, backpackers, boaters, car travelers, and more. 500,000+ places in Europe, 150,000+ in the US and Canada, and more every week.
On the map:
- Drinking water: public fountains, taps and springs
- Fill-up taps: fresh water for a campervan or a boat
- Toilets, with opening hours, accessibility and more
- Showers: hot or cold, free or paid
- Self-service laundry
- Grey and black water dump stations
- Marina pump-outs and water on the dock
Open the app and the map shows what is around you, coloured by category. Tap Closest and a compass needle points at the nearest one, with the distance and a rough walking time. The list view shows the places sorted by distance.
Filters cut the map down to what helps right now: open now, free, wheelchair access, hot water, drive-over dump stations, places you saved. Every filter is available to everyone, with no account and no subscription.
Each place carries what is known about it: opening hours, free or paid, whether it is open to everyone or to customers, and when a person last confirmed it works. A place nobody has confirmed in a while says so, instead of looking as reliable as the rest.
Winter is shown on the map. Some fountains and taps are closed in the winter, and they can be marked as such.
Fontavio does not test water. It shows what open data and other people report about a place, and it marks water that is not drinking water as exactly that.
The map gets better when people fix it. Add a place that is missing, correct a detail that is wrong, or confirm in one tap that a place still works. Browsing needs no account. Contributing needs a sign-in, so that a change has somebody behind it. People can also review places, add photos, and report broken ones.
Fontavio is free to use, with ads. Fontavio Pro removes them and adds:
- Offline maps: download an area and it works with no signal, base map included
- Route planner: line up water and waste stops along a trip
- Folders and private notes on the places you save
