About this app

Foodprint connects users to eateries with surplus food available for purchase at 30% the normal price. Each day the eateries who have partnered with Foodprint upload surplus food items that will otherwise be thrown out. The food is still completely fine to eat and of the same quality as if you’d purchased directly from the store itself. In just a few clicks, you can search for and purchase food items while exploring local eateries and rescuing food from being sent to landfill.

In Foodprint you can:
- Discover food available using the interactive map or list view
- Order and pay for your food
- Follow your favourite eateries to receive notifications when they have food available
- Filter your search based on your location and dietary requirements
- Search specific food items to satisfy your cravings
- Leave a review of your experience for the eatery to see
- See all previous orders
- Invite your friends to join you in rescuing food
- Track how much money you saved
- Track how much carbon you’ve saved
- Securely store your credit card for easy purchasing

Why is food waste an issue?
Humans overproduce food so much, that we end up throwing ⅓ of it away. This is a huge waste of not only the food but also the resources that went into creating that food such as the land, water, labour and money. What’s worse, is that when food is sent to landfill it decomposes and emits the greenhouse gas methane, which is a huge contributor to climate change.

In New Zealand, cafes, restaurants and supermarkets produce 50,000 tonnes of food waste annually. Over 60% of this waste is preventable as the food is still fit for human consumption. Foodprint provides a practical easy-to-use solution that is appealing to users and eateries, allowing both to reduce their foodprint.

Together, the Foodprint community rescues food, saves money and helps the environment.

This app REQUIRES notifications to work. The app asks permission (that's a good thing) to access your location and to send notifications about food needing to be saved. If this permission is refused, then you cannot use the app. Every time you attempt to login, there is an error to say that it cannot initialise notifications and must be restarted. The error only disappears when notifications are turned back on. The app was updated just minutes ago and still requires notifications to be allowed.

Kia ora Gnuthad, thanks for your feedback and I'd like to let you know that you are incorrect. We've only operated in Auckland, Wellington and now the Waikato. Covid meant that we were not able to expand as fast as we'd hoped, but we've never had "a handful of eateries in most large towns and cities". We are currently working on fixing this though!

works well. might not be necessary, but maybe the retailer should scan something on our phone to make sure it's the right customer picking up the right food? just a suggestion. from the retailers point of view it would be nice if "mystery bags" were confirmed as vegan / vegetarian / other. no point taking a risk as a vegan in case you get a mystery meat meal. cheers.

Hi Fiddy, Thanks for your suggestion. Rest assured, the eateries have the order details on their end to match to the customers upon collection. When eateries are able to meet dietary requirements in a Mystery Bag, they will indicate it; however, they may not know what they have to fill it with until right before the customer arrives. ~ Michal

Would be great if the popup asking to enable gps could be turned off. I'm perfectly happy to navigate the map and list myself. Good to know that there's gps support if I need it, but the reality is I rarely use it. I end up having to dismiss the popup multiple times per session, which is annoying.

Hi Ben, Thanks for this - we'll take a look into what's going on with this one. The GPS is there to make navigating the app as easy as possible, showing you the food that's closest to you first. Glad to hear you're finding it easy enough without it, though. ~ Michal
