Skewt is a Skew-T Log-P sounding viewer for pilots, soaring and paragliding users — people who read a sounding to decide whether the day is worth flying.
Pick any location by tapping the map, searching for a place, or using your device's GPS, and read the forecast sounding for it. Scrub forward and back through the forecast hours to watch the profile evolve. In North America, where a radiosonde station is close enough to matter, load the latest observed sounding from it instead and compare the real atmosphere against the model.
THE CHART
The Skew-T is drawn natively, not scraped as an image, so it stays sharp at any zoom and responds to touch:
• Temperature and dewpoint traces on a proper Skew-T Log-P grid
• Parcel path with CAPE and CIN shaded
• Dry and moist adiabats, and mixing-ratio lines
• Wind barbs alongside the profile
• A crosshair readout giving temperature, dewpoint, pressure, altitude and wind at any level you touch
• Landscape layout that puts the chart and the numbers side by side
DERIVED INDICES
CAPE, CIN, LCL, LFC, freezing level and precipitable water
BUILT FOR THE FIELD
Launch sites have bad signal. The most recent sounding you loaded is cached and readable offline, and cached data is always labelled as cached, with the observation or forecast time it came from; you will never mistake stale data for live.
UNITS
Temperature, altitude, wind speed and distance units are each configurable, and times can be shown in the location's local time rather than your own.
DATA SOURCES
Forecast soundings and place-name search come from Open-Meteo. Observed radiosonde soundings come from the Iowa Environmental Mesonet, whose network covers North America. Maps are from Mapbox. Sources are credited in the app.
A NOTE ON WHAT THIS IS NOT
Skewt is a decision-support tool for people who already know how to read a sounding. It is not a flight planning system, not a weather briefing, and not a substitute for an official aviation weather source. Always obtain an official briefing before flight.
PRICING
Skewt is a paid app with a 14-day free trial that starts on first launch, no account and no payment details required. After the trial, a subscription unlocks continued access.
