I've used this app with some photographs of my rock collection and found the information to be accurate and helpful. There are some ads but they can be quickly dismissed and don't interfere with the usefulness of the app. Update: Apparently there is a limited number of what is described as "ad free" identifications, which I reached after several rock Id's. You are then required to watch an ad to proceed. I closed the app. I'll try again later to see if the requirement to watch an ad continues.
