The GaiaXus mobile app is a powerful tool for water quality monitoring, designed to engage students and citizen scientists in hands-on environmental education. Paired with the Proteus sensor, the app captures key water quality data like temperature, turbidity, salinity, depth, chlorophyll, and pH, providing a user-friendly platform for field data collection, viewing, and interactive learning through educator-designed “Labs.”
While tailored for K-12 students, the app also scales for citizen scientists and researchers, enriching environmental literacy and STEM skills by combining real-world data with collaborative, problem-solving activities. Data is securely stored in an AWS cloud platform, enabling easy analysis, comparison, and discussion among students, educators, and community partners such as river keepers.
Through collective projects, students can connect with other schools, contribute to environmental research, and gain a deeper understanding of ecosystems. The Proteus sensor supports varied environments—from lakes to streams—featuring durable design for outdoor use with minimal maintenance.
Designed for accessibility, GaiaXus lowers costs for under-resourced schools and offers grant-supported access. Collaborative features promote partnerships with researchers, fostering engagement and valuable data exchange that benefit both educational and scientific communities.
