GammonSnap makes it easy to analyze backgammon positions from real games.

Simply take a photo of the board and GammonSnap automatically recognizes the position. You can then view a detailed evaluation directly on your phone, compare the best moves, and see how different decisions are rated.

You can also share positions and evaluations with other players, making it easier to discuss difficult or surprising decisions.

Great and helpful app to instantly evaluate positions on the fly. I like the multiple options of sharing the board and evaluated move options with other people directly through the app and even save it directly to my phone's SD card, even though it is stored inside the app's database too for later revisiting it. Another helpful feature is that I can take photos (normal Android camera) outside of the app and then only later use the app to evaluate them when I select them through the app.

Very useful app. You do need to check the board and occasionally (but not often) edit it to make sure everything is correct, but even then it's a lot quicker than starting from scratch.

Does what it says with a minimum of fidgety bits or nerd knobs. The coin based system of paying for evaluation is fair. 100 coins come with the download so you can try it out at no cost. It inarguably serves a niche market but it fills that niche remarkably well.
