Floe Beacon is an offline guide to polar regions, ice, snow, and the natural phenomena found across the world's coldest environments.
Explore a catalog covering icebergs, pressure ridges, snow and weather phenomena, auroras, polar stations, wildlife, and expedition practices. Each entry includes its range, a key measurement or characteristic, background information, and related phenomena that provide additional context.
The Home screen brings together quick search, popular tags, a random discovery, recently opened entries, and less frequently explored topics, making it easy to continue browsing or discover something new.
Search the catalog by name or tags, filter entries by how frequently a phenomenon occurs, or open a random topic with a single action. Two entries can also be compared side by side to see their important characteristics and differences in one place.
Practice what you have learned with a matching activity. Each round contains five pairs connecting polar phenomena with their descriptions. After completing a session, review your result and see which matches were incorrect.
The personal section includes four expedition challenges with step-by-step checklists. It also keeps your pinned entries, thematic collections, and a compact overview of your exploration progress.
Floe Beacon stores your activity locally on your device, including opened and pinned entries, completed matching rounds, and expedition challenge progress. No registration, account, cloud storage, or synchronization is required.
All guide content is included with the app and available offline, making Floe Beacon suitable for exploring polar topics even when no network connection is available.
