About this game

The Greenwood of Elaris is one world, and everyone plays in it at once.

GenFable is a text game. There are no buttons to mash - you type what you want to do, in plain English, and the world answers in prose written for that moment. "Travel north." "Ask Bronn about the barrow." "Sell the pelts and buy a lantern." "Attack the wolf."

A WORLD WITH RULES

The tale is told by AI. The world is not. Every action is checked by a server that owns the truth - whether you are really there, whether you can afford it, whether the blow lands. Hidden dice decide fights, not the narrator. You cannot talk the world into handing you a crown, and neither can anyone else.

WHAT YOU DO

- Take work from the folk of the towns: hunt, fetch, deliver, investigate. More than fifty tasks across the whole of the Greenwood, from a boar for the spit to the thing that sleeps beneath the Heartroot.
- Fight with real dice. Weapons that hit differently, armour for head, chest and legs, and wolves, trolls and worse waiting in the deep wood.
- Trade in every market, and learn what a thing is actually worth.
- Cook and craft from what you forage and what you kill.
- Hide things where only you can find them, and search for what others left behind.
- Pick a pocket. Wager a coin at an inn table. The folk remember what you did to them, and they say so.
- Duel other travellers in the Umbral Court: sealed plans, best of three exchanges, renown and marks at stake.

ONE SHARED WORLD

Other players walk the same roads. You will see where they stand and read what they have done. Leave a message with an innkeeper and another traveller may hear it days later. Come back after a week and the world tells you what happened while you were away.

TEN TURNS A DAY

Actions are rationed. That is deliberate: it makes a day in the Greenwood worth thinking about, and it means the world is still there tomorrow, changed by everyone who walked it while you slept.

Free to play. No advertising.
One shared, AI-narrated fantasy world. Play it by typing plain English.
