About this app

Simple Music Player plays music files that are already stored on your device. It does not stream and does not search for music online.

No ads, no tracking, no sign-up.

I built this player for myself, because most of them bury a simple task under a giant album cover and features I never use. If you just want to open the app and listen to your own files, this one is for you.

🎵 LIBRARY
- Browse by tracks, folders, artists, albums or genres
- Real folder browsing, the way the files actually sit on your storage
- Exclude folders you do not want in the library

▶️ PLAYBACK
- Play queue you can reorder and clean up
- Shuffle and repeat
- Equalizer, built-in or the system one
- Playback speed control
- Sleep timer
- Lyrics on a separate screen, view and edit, time marks are supported

✏️ TAGS
- Edit title, artist, album, genre, lyrics and cover art
- Rename an artist, album or genre across all of its tracks at once

🗂 PLAYLISTS
- Local playlists: create, rename, delete, reorder tracks

🔔 ON YOUR DEVICE
- Home screen widgets
- Android Auto
- Dark theme and color themes

☁️ CLOUD SYNC (OPTIONAL)
The player works fully offline and always will. If you want to, you can connect a cloud storage and keep the same music library on several devices.

- Uploads your local tracks to the cloud and pulls missing files back to the device
- Later changes (adding, deleting, moving, editing tags) are mirrored both ways
- Runs in the background, no need to keep the app open
- Several cloud accounts can be connected at once, each keeps a full copy
- Useful as a backup if a device is lost or broken, and for filling the library from a PC

Sync through Dropbox is free.

🔒 WHAT THIS APP DOES NOT DO
- No ads
- No analytics, no tracking, no data collection
- No account needed to play your own music
- Network access is used only by cloud sync, nothing else

There is also a separate build of this player with no internet permission at all. It has no cloud sync, it is fully open source, and it gets the same updates. Details are on GitHub.

After trying several music apps on my phone, all of which inundated me with ads, even to just look at my music, and all of which eventually froze and I had to uninstall, I finally found this app. It's very basic, no ads, and it loads quickly and just plays my music, which is all I wanted in the first place! Thanks!

I guess all good things must end. They added an "option" to sync, except there's no way to disable it. They claim a different app will be made without syncing. Not sure why they didn't just do that to begin with rather than making this one worse. I've been using this app for years and loved the simple and minimal nature of it.

Reply to dev: and that lite version should've been released before/alongside the one you just bombarded with permissions. Many of us don't do cloud/care. Simple OFFLINE music player? That's BS, it has full network access. LIES. Cloud=ONLINE. Old: DON'T update if you already had the app with no permissions!! It now asks for a LOT- including full network access. No longer simple or private. Nice bait and switch. Disgusted and looking into alternatives. Would NOT recommend now.
