About this app

This is a keyboard for making text expansions, also known as keyboard shortcuts, text replacements, AutoText, or text expansion shortcuts. It can be used to quickly insert frequently typed text, such as date stamps, time stamps, and common phrases.

By default, the first three shortcuts are:

.d → current date
.t → current time
.dt → current date and time

In other words, after typing .d and then pressing the space key, expands to the current date, such as "2025-01-01".

This keyboard is useful if you need:

Text expansion for faster typing

Text replacement for frequently used words or phrases

Date and time stamping

Backing up your shortcut-expansion pairs or transferring them to another device

Batch-inputting or batch-editing your shortcut-expansion pairs

Creating or editing your shortcut-expansion pairs on a desktop computer before importing them into your Android phone

Few Android keyboards are able to do all of these.

You don't need to set anything except defining your text shortcuts and their expansions. For example, you can define:

hay → How are you?

Then, every time you type "hay", it will expand to "How are you?"

Note: After typing a text shortcut, you need to press the space key to get the shortcut expanded.

No internet permissions are needed, and your privacy is respected. Actually, almost no permissions are needed.

Additional features:
• Expansion auto-capitalization
• Auto backspacing for punctuation
• Two-finger swipe to quickly jump to the end of the shortcut list
• Physical keyboards are supported (the shortcuts you create are also available on your physical keyboard)
Shortcut Quick Add: Long-press the number key 1 to open the add-a-shortcut dialog. After defining your shortcut-expansion pair, you will be returned to the original text editor
Shortcut Super Quick Add: Define shortcuts on the fly, without leaving the text editor you are using. For example, by typing:

.ahk.ap.apple

and then pressing the space key, the shortcut

ap → apple

will be added to your shortcut list in the background and can be used immediately.

Additional expansion triggers:
• Double-tap trigger: type the last character of the shortcut once more
• Almost-auto trigger: any shortcut that contains non-alphabet characters will expand automatically
• Swipe trigger: for a 2-letter shortcut, swipe from the first letter to the last

You can enable some or all of them in the Settings page.

• All symbols, except space, are allowed in shortcut definitions
• Long-pressing an alphabet key produces its capital version
• Store, import, and export over 5,000 text expansion shortcuts
• Multi-line expansions are supported

Extra additional features:
• Auto-capitalization of the single letter "i"
• Undo an expansion by long-pressing the number 7
• The macro %clipboard is supported. For example, if you define:

.c → %clipboard

every time you type ".c", the current clipboard contents will be pasted.

Advanced views: Allow shortcuts to launch apps or open websites.

Voice dictation: Can be set up by the user using shortcuts. SpeedKee does not include a fixed microphone key. Voice input is handled by Google Voice.
